Sri Lanka celebrated a proud moment on the international stage as Nipuni Wasana secured a gold medal in beach wrestling at the 6th Asian Beach Games, currently underway in Sanya, China.

Competing in the Women’s 50kg Beach Wrestling event, Wasana delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament, culminating in a decisive victory in the final on April 29, 2026. She overcame Vietnam’s Doan Thi Kim Oanh in a hard-fought contest to claim the top podium position, marking a significant achievement for Sri Lanka in the sport.

Wasana’s journey to gold was marked by dominance and composure. In the semifinals, she produced a commanding display against Japan’s Yano Funa, securing a convincing 4–0 victory by fall (VFA). Her technical superiority and control were evident, setting the tone for her final bout.
