The much-anticipated Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 is set to begin on the 17th of July with a thrilling opening clash between Jaffna and Galle at the SSC Grounds in Colombo.
The two teams earned the honor of featuring in the inaugural match after finishing as the Champions and Runners-up respectively during the 2024 edition of the tournament. Cricket fans across the island can expect an exciting start to the competition as two of the league’s strongest sides go head-to-head under lights.
The opening encounter is scheduled to commence at 7.30 p.m., promising an electrifying atmosphere at one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic cricket venues.
Adding to the excitement, a spectacular opening ceremony will take place before the start of the match at the SSC Grounds. The ceremony is expected to feature entertainment, music, and celebrations showcasing the spirit of Sri Lankan cricket and the vibrant culture surrounding the Lanka Premier League.
The LPL 2026 tournament will run from 17th July to 8th August and will be played across four major venues in the country:
- SSC Grounds, Colombo
- Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium (RDICS), Dambulla
- Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (PICS), Pallekele
- R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS), Colombo

The tournament is conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the owners of the Lanka Premier League, in partnership with The IPG Group, the official event rights holder.
