A significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today (May 4th) between the governments of Sri Lanka and the Maldives to enhance cooperation in the fields of sports and youth development.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, on behalf of Sri Lanka, and a high-level ministerial delegation representing the Republic of Maldives. This exchange further strengthens the bilateral ties between the two nations.

Key Areas of Cooperation:
According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the MoU facilitates collaboration across several key areas:

Youth Empowerment: Implementation of leadership and personality development programs, youth exchange camps, promotion of youth entrepreneurship, and sharing expertise on volunteerism.

Sports Excellence: Organizing joint sporting events, facilitating exchange programs for athletes, coaches, and referees, and collaborating on sports medicine.

Inclusive Development: A focus on promoting women in sports, integrating the disabled and special needs community into athletics, and collective action against anti-doping.

Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage noted that this agreement will provide Sri Lankan athletes with international-level training opportunities and help develop the Sports Tourism sector in partnership with the Maldives.
