The New Zealand Under-85kg rugby team has officially arrived in Sri Lanka ahead of their much-anticipated two-match series against the Sri Lanka Tuskers.
The visiting squad touched down at the Bandaranaike International Airport on the night of April 20 at approximately 10:25 p.m., where they were warmly received by officials from Sri Lanka Rugby.
This year’s tour follows the success of last year’s historic series, which generated strong fan engagement and marked a significant step in developing the under-85kg format in the region. The 2026 edition is expected to attract even larger crowds, with matches scheduled in both Colombo and Kandy.
The New Zealand Under-85kg squad features a balanced mix of seasoned players and emerging talent drawn from across the country’s competitive club rugby scene. Their opponents, the Sri Lanka Tuskers, represent the national outfit and will be led by Lasindu Karunathilaka, the title-winning skipper of CR & FC. Supporting him as vice-captain is Tharindu Chathuranga, who leads Kandy SC.
The Tuskers will be eager to improve on last year’s performances, where they suffered defeats of 50-10 in Kandy and 32-16 in Colombo. With home advantage and a strengthened squad, they are expected to pose a much tougher challenge this time around.
