Lucknow Super Giants pulled off a tense five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 10 of IPL 2026 at Hyderabad, chasing down 157 with one ball remaining.
After restricting Sunrisers Hyderabad to 156/9 in their 20 overs, Lucknow reached 160/5 in 19.5 overs thanks to a composed unbeaten knock from captain Rishabh Pant and useful contributions from Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad.
Klaasen and Nitish Rescue Sunrisers
Sunrisers Hyderabad endured a disastrous start after being sent in to bat. Mohammed Shami struck twice in the opening overs to leave the home side reeling.
Travis Head was dismissed for 7 from 8 balls after being caught by Aiden Markram, while Abhishek Sharma fell for a two-ball duck. Captain Ishan Kishan also failed to make an impact, scoring only 1 from 4 balls before Prince Yadav removed him.
At 11/3, Sunrisers were under severe pressure and matters became worse when Liam Livingstone managed only 14 from 20 deliveries before being dismissed by Digvesh Rathi.
With the innings in danger of collapsing completely, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy produced a superb counter-attack. Klaasen struck 62 off 41 balls, smashing five fours and two sixes, while Nitish Kumar Reddy made 56 from only 33 deliveries with three boundaries and five sixes.
The pair rebuilt the innings and added 116 runs for the fifth wicket, taking Sunrisers from 26/4 to 142/5 and putting the team back into the contest.
However, Lucknow Super Giants came back strongly at the death. Nitish Kumar Reddy was dismissed in the 18th over, Klaasen followed soon after for 62, and Sunrisers lost four wickets in the final 15 balls.
Harshal Patel was run out in the penultimate over as Sunrisers eventually finished on 156/9.
Prince Yadav was the standout bowler for Lucknow with figures of 3/28, while Mohammed Shami gave the side the perfect start by taking two early wickets. Avesh Khan also chipped in with two wickets.
Pant Leads the Chase
Lucknow Super Giants began their chase positively through Aiden Markram, who attacked from the start. The South African opener scored 45 from 27 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes.
Mitchell Marsh made 14 from 12 balls before falling to Eshan Malinga , but Markram continued to keep the scoreboard moving.
Rishabh Pant then took control of the innings with a calm and mature knock. Batting through to the end, Pant remained unbeaten on 68 from 50 balls, striking nine boundaries.
Lucknow looked comfortable at one stage, but Sunrisers fought back with regular wickets. Ayush Badoni scored 12 before being stumped by Ishan Kishan, while Nicholas Pooran was run out for just 1.
When Abdul Samad departed for 16 in the 18th over, Lucknow still needed 18 runs from the final 15 balls.
Pant, however, held his nerve brilliantly. He found timely boundaries in the closing stages and, alongside Mukul Choudhary, guided Lucknow to the target with one ball to spare.
Lucknow finished on 160/5 in 19.5 overs, sealing an important five-wicket victory.
